Viktualienmarkt - Munich's food market

Munich's largest food market.
Formerly a farmer's market with a tradition dating back to 1807, the Viktualienmarkt is currently Munich's largest food market. It covers a surface area of 22,000 m2 and boasts 140 stalls selling flowers and plants, fruit and vegetables from around the world, poultry and game, eggs and butter, meat and sausages and so on. The market's originality lies in the fact that locally sourced products are sold alongside more exotic products.
The Viktualienmarkt is also the scene of traditional and folkloric events such as the Carnival festivities (Fasching) and the Merchants Dance on Mardi Gras Day.
The Hall was restored using the original wrought iron frame and reopened in August 2005. Designed as a vibrant forum for the market and crafts, the Viktualienmarkt affords an exceptional choice that combines manufacture, culture and gastronomy.
